A familiar evening sight Downtown are the young and well dressed, lining up, strolling in and out of nightclub doorways that go unnoticed in daylight hours. To Gregory Godwin and David Laurent, they are a business opportunity. The entrepreneurial founders of LovinLounge.com have created an invite-only Website aimed at those fun seekers. The bustling digital oasis delivers what’s happening on the local club scene, complete with member profiles and lots of photos. The idea for the business came 2 1/2 years ago. Both men were active in promoting club events, working the velvet rope where it is decided who gets in. “People would always say, ‘We were at your event and I was talking to a girl in a red dress, do you know who she was? Do you have her name,’” Laurent says. Well, what if you had her photo and a neutral place to leave a message? And find out what club she was going to next? Laurent says it took six to nine months of planning and another 18 months to develop the site and software. Every LovinLounge member is screened by a human, with most signing up after a photographer at a club snaps their photo and gives them a card with instructions on how to find it. The revenue model is based on advertising. With a tourist password in hand, we cruised the site, finding it quite populated with those 20-to-30-somethings, most of whom had a posting that consisted of their photo and name. There was plenty of information about events, and photos of past events. Now the partners are looking to go national by displaying their LovinLounge prowess in March during Miami’s Winter Music Conference, the world’s largest dance music event.
